About

The side was formed in 1978 and is based in south Dorset. They are distinguished by their white clothing, black top hats and blue, white and green ribbons.
Frome Valley Morris dance mainly in the Cotswold style of Morris. The earliest records of such dances date back some 500 years, although the true origins are probably much earlier.
Over the years, Frome Valley Morris have performed dances based on those from a number of Cotswold villages. For 2005 the displays mainly involve dances derived from those originating at Adderbury, Badby and Bledington. They also occasionally perform sword dances from the north of England, and Border style dances from the Welsh borders.
Throughout the spring and summer, Frome Valley Morris bring the tradition to as many people as possible by dancing at a number of local venues including several villages. The side has also performed at many national and international events and on television, including appearances at the Bracknell, Cornwall, Dawlish, Wimborne and Whitby folk festivals, and at Granville and Louviers in France.
